In the Asala Kotanai region of Khwazakhela Tehsil of Swat district on Friday, a school bus plunged into a deep ditch beside the road, resulting in one student’s death and forty-one injuries.
About forty-two students from Khwazakhela were on the school bus, according to Rescue 1122, and the youngsters were being dropped off at their houses after school.
“The bus lost control of itself and plunged into the roadside ditch when it came to a narrow bridge in the Asala area. As a result, one student—Daud—died at the scene, and forty-one others were hurt, according to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shafiqa Gul.
When the rescue teams arrived, she added, they moved the injured pupils to Khwazakhela Hospital. Because of the severity of their injuries, six kids were also taken to Saidu Sharif Teaching Hospital.
Local eyewitnesses reported that the bus lost control of the driver and plummeted into the ditch. “This driver was also involved in an accident involving a school bus in the Lalku area, which resulted in the deaths of four students and the injuries of thirty-two others.” Khwazakhela resident Haider Ali told Dawn that he was taken into custody by the police on suspicion of reckless driving.
He claimed that despite being aware that the irresponsible driver had previously been involved in a deadly accident, Abaseen School had employed him again.
According to the locals, the bus was too old and not fit for the road.
According to the residents, there have been multiple deadly accidents caused by the extremely narrow road and bridge in the Asala area.
Strict measures would be taken against the bus driver and the school administration, among others, according to DPO Swat Dr. Zahidullah, who also announced that an instant investigation into the accident has been opened.
