Punjab Approves Agri Tube Wells Solarisation Project

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz approved the Agricultural Tube Well Solarization Project.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz approved the Agricultural Tube Well Solarization Project with the determination to relieve farmers and cultivators from heavy electricity bills and diesel costs.

In the briefing given regarding the project, it has been mentioned that the farmers owning 25 acres of land will be eligible for the agricultural tubewell solarization project.

For the solarization project, the farmer will have to pay only 33% while 67% will be paid by the government.

In the first phase, 7,000 tube wells will be converted to solar energy. Another 10,000 tube wells will be converted to solar energy in the second phase with the cooperation of the federal government.

Running a tubewell with diesel costs Rs.3,000 per acre, electricity costs Rs.1500, while irrigation of an acre with solar energy will cost only Rs.50.

In the meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz, it was directed to prepare a special package for vegetable farmers.

He issued instructions for devising a sustainable supply management system for tomatoes, onions, and other essential vegetables.

The Chief Minister of Punjab said that he will solve the problem of expensive electricity for farmers and will provide solar panels.

Getting rid of diesel and expensive electricity will reduce the cost of the crop. If the farmer is prosperous, then Punjab will be prosperous.

On this occasion, Senator Pervez Rasheed, Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Minister of Information and Culture Zahid Bukhari, Provincial Minister of Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, Chief Secretary, Secretary Agriculture and other officials were also present in the meeting.
