Major Airports in Pakistan Will Have Smart Gates to Enable Smooth Transit

The government intends to construct new smart gates at Pakistan main airports, making exiting the nation easier.

The principal aviation regulatory authority in Pakistan, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), has sent an invitation to companies to tender for the installation of electronic gates at its three main airports: Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

The project’s goal is to build a self-service immigration system at airports in order to reduce expenses and raise customer satisfaction. According to the CAA’s bid materials, the system will be installed at the airports’ arrival and departure gates and use cutting-edge technologies to verify passengers’ identities.

The CAA continued, “It is intended to modernize its border control solution to enable a seamless Immigration process of travelers at Pakistan airports while improving security processing, given the context of increasing passenger numbers and with the recent expansion of airports.”

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the effort will reduce the amount of work that staffed immigration counters have to undertake and provide a uniform automated immigration process that includes personal authentication and document verification in order to preserve border security and integrity.

The range of services encompasses the provision, setup, integration, testing, and commissioning of e-gate systems, succeeded by maintenance and operation.

Bids from interested domestic and foreign organizations are requested to be submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority by August 13, 2024.

With more than 1.7 million Pakistanis living in the UAE, the UAE-Pakistan air corridor is one of the busiest. More than 230,000 Pakistanis relocated to the UAE in 2023 in search of better possibilities. A 4 percent increase in the number of people who went abroad for work was reported by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BE&OE) and Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC), totaling 862,625.

Major airline operators in the United Arab Emirates (Emirates, Flydubai, Etihad, and Air Arabia) serve popular Pakistani locations such as Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan. Lahore and Islamabad were recently added to Flydubai’s list of destinations.
