Advisory Committee Discusses Release Of IMT Spectrum

On Thursday, Finance Minister, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb presided over the meeting on ‘’Release of IMT spectrum for Enhancement of Next Generation Mobile Broadband Services in Pakistan’’ Advisory Committee.

Pursuant to a press release by the finance ministry, participants included Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, and other concerned ministries and department individuals.

The various stakeholders in the telecommunication sector and the regulatory bodies paved the way to a briefing of the minister on the strategic plans of the IMT spectrum allocation and use.

As noted earlier, the freeing of this spectrum is anticipated to help boost the overall connection, increase internet speeds as well as meet today’s growing need for quality data.

The steps of the auction mechanism, including the technical characteristics of the offering, the timeline for the spectrum release were the topics of the meeting.

The Advisory Committee also discussed on the strategy for technology development as well as encouraging the environment to facilitate investment and development of telecommunications industry.

This meeting supports the government’s vision to promote digital infrastructure as well as the nation’s economic welfare out rightly.
