Punjab CM Maryam Approved “Honahar Merit Scholarship” Programme for Students

The “Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship” programme was approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The Chief Minister gave the order to raise the number of scholarships from 4,000 to 25,000 during a discussion about education reforms.

According to the Chief Minister, the scholarship will cover the entire cost for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at eight private universities and one government university.

The Chief Minister also approved the founding of new universities in Wahari, Rabhaulingar, and Jhelum.

The Chief Minister also gave the order to launch the laptop programme right now. The Chief Minister has expressed gratitude for the free MDCAT and ECAT courses offered in 90 Punjabi institutions.

During the conference, it was resolved to introduce new disciplines in institutions with lower enrollment. These disciplines will be linked to the demands of the labour market.

Additionally, it was planned to implement an online portal system for principal and divisional director appointments.

There will be a robust system in place to select Divisional Directors and Principals only on the basis of qualifications.

A plan was given to provide new buses to government colleges per the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The recommendations for the creation of universities under private-public partnerships were also discussed at the meeting.

It was decided at the meeting to help the private sector open government-affiliated universities.

A high-level ministry committee was to be established in order to examine the operations of private universities.

The Punjab Board Coordination Commission was also established at the meeting with the goal of reforming school board operations.

Dr. Farrukh Naveed, the secretary of higher education, briefed the group.

Under this programme, all eight chosen private sector universities as well as all government universities will pay the full tuition for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree.

The meeting was attended by a number of authorities, including Principal Secretary, Chairman P&D, Chief Secretary, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, and Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
