Landslides near Zhob on Sunday caused the major route that links Balochistan with Punjab and KP to be closed. Ground traffic in the Awaran district of Balochistan has been disrupted by torrential rains. Due to the intense rain, the route between Awaran and Turbat was closed.
Furthermore, a landslip in the Dhana Sar range has blocked the N-70 national highway, severing Balochistan’s ground connection to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), yesterday’s strong rains caused local streams in Awaran, including Bedi, Sorab, Bazaar, Mashi, Pirandar, Mashkay, and Jhawa, to flood.
There have been no reports of injuries in Awaran, and the local government is actively working to provide help to the impacted areas. Officials from the National Highway Authority (NHA) have additionally verified that landslides and heavy rains have closed the N-50 segment in the Dhana Sar area to all traffic. To clean the road, machinery has been mobilised and efforts are in progress.
It has been recommended to the authorities in the districts of Zhob and Qila Saifullah that all traffic be redirected onto alternate routes on the N-70 national highway. Heavy gear is being used near Danasar to reconstruct the national highway, according to Zhob’s deputy commissioner. The Zhob-DI Khan National Highway should not be travelled on, according to the deputy commissioner of Zhob.
