What’s Inside the World’s Largest Cruise Ship – “Icon of the Seas”

Early in 2024, Royal Caribbean International plans to launch the Icon of the Seas, which will be the largest cruise ship in the world in terms of gross tonnage. The innovative ship, which aims to reinvent luxury cruise vacations, will set out on its inaugural journey from the Port of Miami in the United States.

The Maritime History’s New Icon

Icon of the Seas’ voyage started in October 2016 when Meyer Turku and Royal Caribbean revealed their plan to construct two completely new ships. In June 2021, Icon of the Seas, the first of this pair, had her steel cut, ushering in a revolutionary period for the cruise liner industry.

The ship’s first LNG tank was placed at the Neptun Werft in Rostock, Germany, in October 2021, marking a major milestone in the project. The keel was laid by April 2022, paving the way for the ship’s final assembly. June 2023 saw the start of the Icon of the Seas’ first sea testing, which made it possible to make the last interior design changes and furnishings.

Changing the Meaning of Cruise Line Engineering

At 250,800 gross tonnes, Icon of the Seas is a feat of nautical engineering. With six multifuel Wärtsilä engines producing 67,500 kW (90,520 horsepower), she is propelled by LNG. Royal Caribbean’s dedication to environmentally conscious and efficient cruising is demonstrated by this distinctive propulsion design, which enables the engines to run on both LNG and distillate fuel.

In addition, Icon of the Seas was the first to include features for renewable energy. The ship is the first in Royal Caribbean history to use fuel cells to generate both energy and fresh water. This environmentally friendly strategy demonstrates Royal Caribbean’s dedication to transforming the cruise experience without sacrificing the environment.

A Floating City of Adventure and Luxuriance

Icon of the Seas is a floating city built to enthral its 5,610 double occupancy passengers (or 7,600 passengers at maximum capacity) with unmatched amenities and experiences. It is not just about size and environmental care. A staff of 2,350 will make sure every journey is as comfortable and pleasurable as possible on board the ship.

With 20 floors and seven swimming pools and six exhilarating water slides, this enormous cruise ship is sure to wow. Royal Caribbean claims to have the biggest waterpark at sea, the highest waterfall, and the tallest water slide in an effort to provide an experience that is unmatched. In addition, the ship has the first suspended infinity pool on a vessel, providing visitors with a singular experience of leisure and natural splendour.

The Sea’s Icon: Setting a New Direction

The biggest cruise terminal in the United States, Terminal A in Port Miami, is the home port for Icon of the Seas and an appropriate place for this top-tier vessel to set sail year-round. Offering clients a choice of two Eastern Caribbean trips or an unusual trip to the Western Caribbean, the cruise offers three different seven-night itineraries.

Beginning in Miami, the first Eastern Caribbean itinerary sails to Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. The journey concludes with a day at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s exclusive resort island. From Miami, the second Eastern Caribbean itinerary sails via Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, culminating in a day that guests won’t soon forget in CocoCay.

For those looking for a more daring itinerary across the Western Caribbean, departures from Miami take passengers to Roatan, Honduras, Costa Maya, Mexico, and Cozumel, Mexico. The trip culminates at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

With the introduction of Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean is poised to reshape the cruise line. With its innovative design, eco-friendly operations, and unparalleled luxury, this ship represents the direction of cruise travel. Prepare yourself for an incredible voyage on board the biggest cruise ship in the world, whether you’re an experienced traveller or a first-time discoverer.
