Punjab Is Setting Up Two More Transgender Schools

In addition to the transgender-focused school now situated in front of Barkat Market, the Punjab government has decided to construct two more in Lahore.

These new educational facilities will be situated in Wagah and Raiwind. According to details, transgender children enrolled in all three schools would receive free books, stationery, and uniforms from the School Education Department (SED).

Each student will also get a scholarship worth Rs. 10,000 as long as they keep up an attendance record of 80%. Of this sum, Rs. 5,000 would go towards travel expenditures and Rs. 5,000 will be used for books and stationery.

In the past, similar institutions were founded to offer transgender individuals educational opportunity in a number of places, including Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Earlier this year, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced intentions to construct transgender schools at the division level and educational facilities for kids with special needs in every district’s government school.

It is noteworthy that nine out of Punjab’s eleven divisions have transgender schools, as per an order by the previous administration of Usman Buzdar.

Alisha noted that the administration was unsure of the precise number of members of the transgender community in the Punjab.

CM Maryam Nawaz gave pertinent officials instructions during the meeting to establish a new, all-inclusive process for choosing CEOs, DEOs, and DDEOs in each district that adheres to worldwide best practices.

She also observed that the distribution of textbooks to schools was delayed. Nonetheless, the chief minister was given assurances by the officials present at the conference that textbooks will be sent to every school by May. According to them, 41% of the textbook supply had already been fulfilled. She was informed that textbooks would be available in classrooms by February of the following year.

A brand-new children’s book about environmental pollution and climate change was also given to the CM.

Speakers at the meeting included Senator-elect Pervaiz Rashid, MPA Sania Ashiq, chief secretary, senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, information minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, and other pertinent officials. Minister for School Education Rana Sikandar Hayat was also present.
