Crackdown Shuts Illegal Petrol Pumps in Quetta

Quetta: The district administration in the provincial capital Quetta has intensified the crackdown by imposing a complete ban on the sale of illegal Iranian petrol and diesel.

According to district officials, more than 100 illegal private petrol pumps have been sealed and dozens of people have been arrested in the last two weeks.

The administration says that smuggling of Iranian petrol not only harms the economy but illegal pumps in densely populated areas can also cause accidents. That is why the scope of the operations is being expanded further.

Meanwhile, a person associated with the petrol business said on condition of anonymity that most of the illegal petrol pumps in the city have been closed due to strict operations, however, petrol is being sold secretly from bottles and behind shops on a limited scale.

According to citizens, after the ban on Iranian petrol, they have to buy expensive Pakistani petrol.

According to local citizen Hamza Ahmed, before the ban, Iranian petrol was available for Rs 190 per liter, while now Pakistani petrol has to be purchased for Rs 254.

According to experts, if the government crackdown continues, the supply of Iranian petrol in Quetta may be further limited before Eid al-Adha, which will directly affect ordinary citizens.
