FBR Wins Rs. 36 Billion in Landmark Court Battle
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has achieved a significant victory in pending tax litigation, thanks to the special interest and clear directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Acting on the Prime Minister’s instructions, FBR significantly improved its legal strategy and actively pursued key cases in the Islamabad High Court.
As a result of these efforts, the court issued verdicts in FBR’s favor last week, resolving cases worth a total of Rs. 36.14 billion. These cases had long been entangled in legal proceedings, blocking critical revenue collection and hampering the national exchequer.
A comprehensive legal strategy was devised under the Prime Minister’s guidance to expedite proceedings and strengthen representation. This approach has started to yield concrete results.
Among the major successes of the past week were three high-value tax cases. The most prominent was against Bahria Town (Private) Limited, in which the Islamabad High Court upheld the recovery of Rs. 26.446 billion in favor of the FBR. This particular case had been pending for over two and a half years before various appellate forums.
In addition, two other corporate tax cases—collectively valued at Rs. 9.7 billion—were also decided in FBR’s favor, further strengthening the government’s position in revenue collection efforts.
These victories reflect the growing effectiveness of FBR’s legal department and mark a significant step forward in recovering stuck revenues for the national treasury.
