Pakistan And Iran Vow To Strengthen Ties Across Key Sectors
Pakistan and Iran have agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga in Tehran, said that the doors of talks are open to resolve all outstanding issues for peace in the region.
The Prime Minister said that there has been a discussion with Iran on expanding cooperation in trade, investment and other important areas. The two countries have deep historical, religious and cultural ties that are conducive to further strengthening mutual ties.
He said that Iranian President Dr. Masoud Peshmerga expressed deep concern over the growing tension in the region over the phone and expressed his feelings for the people of Pakistan, while positive talks were also held with the Iranian Foreign Minister in Islamabad.
Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the courageous actions of the Pakistani armed forces against India and said that Pakistan is a peaceful country that desires peace and security in the region. He hinted at talks to resolve all disputes including the water issue and counter-terrorism and said that a befitting response will be given in case of aggression.
The Prime Minister expressed his desire to resolve all disputes, including the Kashmir issue, peacefully and termed the situation in Gaza as extremely worrying and called on the international community to ensure an immediate and lasting ceasefire. He said that Pakistan expressed full solidarity with its Palestinian brothers.
He added that Pakistan supports Iran’s civil nuclear program and close consultations in this regard will continue in the future. Pakistan stands with its brotherly people for peace, development and prosperity in Iran.
Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian, describing Pakistan as a brotherly neighbor, welcomed the arrival of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and emphasized the historical and cultural ties between the two countries. He mentioned the common stance of the two countries on the OIC platform.
The President said that bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism in border areas is very important and the development and prosperity of the region is possible only through peace.
