Meta Shocks Users: WhatsApp Stops on 3 Popular iPhones Today

The world’s most popular messaging app, WhatsApp, has delivered bad news for older iPhone users.

Starting today (May 6), the Meta-owned platform will stop working on three popular Apple devices.

No, only those iPhones that have an iOS 15.1 or newer operating system will be able to use WhatsApp.

The affected models include:

iPhone 5s

iPhone 6

iPhone 6 Plus

All these phones have been declared unsuitable for apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Spotify because Apple has officially declared them obsolete and stopped providing service and security updates.

According to a WhatsApp spokesperson, the company reviews every year which devices should be maintained.

Older models often cannot run security updates or modern features, so they are excluded from the service.

If your iPhone is running iOS 12 or lower and can’t be updated to iOS 15.1, you won’t be able to send or receive messages on WhatsApp after today.

How to find out what operating system your phone is running?

To check which operating system you’re currently using, open the Settings app, select General, and tap the About tab.

Under the Version heading, you’ll be able to see the current iOS version number. If you need to update your iPhone, go to the tab labeled General and select Software Update.

On the other hand, Meta said in a statement that Meta AI is an optional service from Meta through WhatsApp that can answer your questions,

teach you something, or help you with new ideas. However, as soon as this feature started rolling out to British users, many people were unhappy with the change.

A user on X wrote, “How do I get rid of Meta AI in WhatsApp? The button keeps getting in the way and I will never use it,” while another user joked, “WhatsApp, leave me alone for God’s sake with such a big'”Ask AI’ button.”
