Ministers Get 140% Pay Hike Amid Austerity Claims
Islamabad: Contrary to the austerity claims, the government has increased the salaries of federal ministers and ministers of state by more than 140 percent.
Under the new amendment, the salaries of ministers have been increased from 218,000 to 519,000. This decision will be implemented from January 1, 2025.
President Asif Ali Zardari has issued an amendment ordinance to the “Salary, Benefits and Privileges Act, 1975”, through which ministers will be given salaries equal to those of members of the National Assembly.
On the one hand, the government is talking about right sizing and reduction in expenses, on the other hand, the increase in financial incentives in high positions is sending a contradictory message to the public.
