Modi Grants Indian Army Freedom to Respond After Pahalgam Incident
New Delhi: The Indian government has permitted the army to retaliate after the Pahalgam incident. According to a foreign news agency, a high-level security meeting was chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the chiefs of the armed forces participated.
The meeting took a detailed review of the security situation after the Pahalgam incident. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allowed the Indian army to respond to the incident, and instructed that the army itself should decide the method, time, place and targets of the response.
The Indian government has blamed Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack. According to Indian media, Narendra Modi will chair separate meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Security, Economy and Political Affairs on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in the context of increasing tensions between Pakistan and India, the Indian Army has made important changes in the Northern Command.
Lieutenant General Sukhendra Kumar has been removed and Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the Army’s vice chief for strategy, has been appointed as the new commander of the Northern Command.
It should be noted that the Indian Northern Command, based in Udhampur, oversees all military operations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and is directly responsible for operations against Pakistan and China.
