Punjab Government Approves 24KM Tram Route
The Punjab government has decided to introduce a modern “Shop and Ride Tram” in Lahore, which will provide a new travel experience for citizens in 2025.
This project is being developed on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, under which a 24-kilometer-long tram track will be built from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura.
Tram project details
Route: In the first phase, the tram will run from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura, for which a track will be built on both sides of the canal.
Stops: 13 to 14 stations will be built on the track, including a special stop inside the Gaddafi Stadium.
Estimated cost: The project is likely to cost Rs 50 to 60 billion.
Tram model: Models from Finland and China are being studied for a modern design.
Energy sources: Electric, hybrid, and battery-powered trams are being considered.
When will the project be implemented?
According to government sources, the tram service will be completed in a short period of one year and construction work will begin soon.
Travel revolution in Lahore
The PML-N government has always provided modern travel facilities to the citizens of Lahore.
In the past, projects like the Metro Bus and Orange Line Train were part of this vision, and now Lahore’s first tram service will prove to be another important step in this regard.
