NADRA introduces special lifetime ID cards

NADRA has approved amendments to the National Identity Card rules, under which a unique National Identity Card with lifetime validity will be issued. Important amendments have been approved in the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Rules 2002 under Section 44 of the NADRA Ordinance 2000.

According to a NADRA spokesperson, these changes are designed to make the system more comprehensive, simplify the document processing process, and meet the specific needs of specific groups of people.

The important update after the new amendments is that it will be possible to issue a unique identity card with lifetime validity for special persons,

Furthermore, resident and non-resident adult citizens who have been recognized as special persons by the federal or provincial authorities will also be eligible for National Identity Cards with the wheelchair logo,

NADRA will arrange for the issuance of these special NICs. Under the new amendments to the rules, in addition, to disabled children, a NADRA Child Registration Certificate or Juvenile Card will also be issued,

which will also have the wheelchair symbol and will be valid for the period prescribed as per the rules. Registration with the relevant federal or provincial institutions has been made mandatory for special persons.

Along with this, organ donors will also be issued a special card with a lifetime validity, which will clearly display both the ‘wheelchair’ and ‘donor’ symbols. Registration with the relevant donor registration authorities will be necessary for organ donation.

It should be noted that these changes mark an important step in the government’s efforts to ensure inclusion and improve the identification of disabled people and organ donors across Pakistan.

A NADRA spokesperson said that the notification of amendments to the rules will come into effect after its publication in the Gazette of Pakistan, after which these changes will be implemented regularly.
