42% of Seized Vehicles Allocated to DC Office Islamabad

Islamabad – Out of 106 vehicles with tampered chassis numbers seized by the Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad, a total of 49 vehicles have been allocated to various government departments, while 57 have been kept in the department’s warehouse.

According to the written response submitted by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to the National Assembly, the highest number—21 vehicles—were allotted to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Islamabad.

Following that, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) received 16 vehicles, including 10 for CDA Building Control, 6 for CDA Enforcement, while 3 vehicles were handed over to the Islamabad Food Authority.

The minister further explained that the Excise and Taxation Department conducts physical inspections of vehicles, during which suspicious and tampered vehicles are seized. Later, such vehicles are either auctioned or allocated to government departments.

However, under the Pakistan Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965 and the Islamabad Capital Territory (Seizure and Disposal of Motor Vehicle) Rules 2014, vehicles with cut-and-weld or tampered chassis numbers cannot be auctioned. Instead, they are either placed in the Excise warehouse or officially assigned to government departments for use.

Allocations include 1 vehicle for the Labour Department, 1 for the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) office, 1 for the Additional Deputy Commissioner (East) office, 3 for the District Attorney’s office, 1 for the Prosecution office, and 3 for the ETO office.

The seized vehicles included a large number of Land Cruisers, Prados, Corollas, and Honda Civics, which were handed over to departments. Meanwhile, older models of Suzuki Mehran, Bolan, Khyber, and Land Cruisers were shifted to warehouses.

The Excise report submitted to the Ministry of Interior clarified that over the last five years, no seized vehicle has been handed over to any official for personal use.

As per details, 34 Toyota Corollas were distributed among departments, while one 2005-model Land Cruiser was allotted to the ETO office, a Land Cruiser Prado to CDA Building Control, and another Land Cruiser to the CDA Enforcement Department. On the other hand, 20 Suzuki Mehran and Khyber models, along with 11 Toyota Corollas, were moved to the warehouse.
