A massive fire broke out in a fireworks warehouse on M.A. Jinnah Road, one of Karachi’s busiest areas, following a powerful explosion. The blaze has now been brought under control, and cooling operations are underway. At least 34 people were injured in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, thick black smoke billowed into the sky and could be seen from a distance. A nearby rickshaw was also engulfed in flames.
As soon as the incident was reported, five KMC fire brigade vehicles, a snorkel, and a water bowser were dispatched to the site. Police and Rangers personnel also rushed to the area. Due to the worsening situation, SSU commandos were deployed to assist rescue teams in carrying out relief operations. Several people trapped on the roof were safely evacuated.
SSP South stated that the explosion occurred inside the warehouse, which then triggered the fire. The intensity of the blast caused severe damage to nearby shops and buildings, shattering windowpanes and injuring several people with flying glass.
Rescue officials confirmed that 34 injured people were shifted to Jinnah and Civil Hospitals, where four remain in critical condition.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the incident and directed authorities to take emergency measures to extinguish the fire and prevent further casualties.
According to the CM’s spokesperson, Murad Ali Shah instructed the Karachi Commissioner to ensure prompt medical treatment for the injured and submit a detailed report once the fire is fully extinguished.
The Chief Minister further emphasized that storing or manufacturing hazardous materials in residential or commercial areas must not be allowed, as it poses a grave risk to public safety.
