London: Pakistan achieved a significant academic victory when the Indian delegation withdrew from a verified debate at the Oxford Union, granting Pakistan a clear win.
According to the Pakistani High Commission, General (Retd) Zubair Mahmood Hayat, former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, and Dr. Muhammad Faisal participated in the debate, while the Indian team did not attend. The debate focused on India’s Pakistan policy, and the Pakistani team was fully prepared with logical arguments and a strong, well-researched stance.
Why Did India Avoid the Oxford Debate While Pakistan Stood Ready?
The statement highlighted that the Indian delegation sabotaged the debate in advance to avoid challenging questions and logical scrutiny. Their absence on a neutral platform like the Oxford Union exposed the weaknesses of their position.
The High Commission added that while Indian leaders often make bold claims in the media, they avoid engaging in a direct academic discussion. Despite the majority of students being Indian, the delegation declined to face voting or questions that could test their arguments.
The statement emphasized that Pakistan was fully prepared to defend its position through reasoned debate and legal arguments. In contrast, India’s withdrawal reflected both a failure of its policy narrative and raised questions in front of its own audience. The High Commission concluded that Pakistan’s approach was clear, confident, and well-reasoned, while India resorted to retreat as a strategy.
