Twenty prisoners escaped from the Rawalkot District Jail Poonch in broad daylight by taking a policeman hostage.
According to sources, the incident took place when the jail sentry went to open the door to take the prisoners out of the barracks. A few prisoners were already ready with chilies, who easily escaped by putting chilies in Santri’s eyes.
In this regard, the sources said that the prisoners snatched Santri’s gun and opened fire. The police arrested a prisoner in an injured condition.
Sources say that the escaped prisoners include those arrested on charges of terrorism, murder, attempted murder, and drug trafficking.
After the incident, security has been put on high alert in Rawalkot city, along with DSP Sardar Tariq, a heavy contingent of police, administration, and security agencies is present in the jail to investigate the matter.
