Eid Showdown: Athar Zahid to Defend Title in Nepal

Kathmandu: Pakistani-origin world wrestling champion Athar Zahid will defend his international title in Nepal on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha on June 7, 2025.

He will face India’s renowned challenger, Samrat Virender in this match.

Athar Zahid, who was born to Pakistani parents in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, quickly gained fame in the region through his victories.

He became the international champion by defeating Indian wrestler Singham Dubey in Kathmandu in October 2024. His signature move, “Desert Slam,” has captured the hearts of fans.

Athar said before leaving: “I am not alone in the ring; the hopes of 250 million Pakistanis are with me. This match on Eid is not just a game, it is a moment of unity and national pride.

This competition is not only a championship defense, but also a symbol of brotherhood and connection through sport in South Asian wrestling.
