Budget 2025-26: Rs 18 Trillion Shock Incoming

Islamabad – The federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26 is expected to be around Rs 17,500 billion to Rs 18,000 billion.

According to government sources, estimates have been fixed for important budget sectors, including revenues, loans, development projects, and defense expenditures.

According to sources, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is being given a target of collecting Rs 14,307 billion in revenues.

Of this, Rs 6,470 billion will be collected from direct taxes, while Rs 4,943 billion is expected to be collected from sales tax, Rs 1,741 billion from customs duty, and Rs 1,153 billion from federal excise duty.

The petroleum levy is estimated to collect Rs 1,311 billion, while non-tax revenue is expected to be Rs 2,584 billion. According to the documents, the provinces will provide a surplus of Rs 1,220 billion.

The largest expenditure in the budget has been earmarked for interest payments on loans, which will be Rs 8,685 billion. Rs 2,414 billion is being allocated for defense spending.

Rs 1,65 billion will be spent on federal development projects in the next fiscal year, while the government will need to borrow Rs 6,588 billion to meet its overall financial needs.

According to official sources, the main thrust of the budget will focus on fiscal discipline, revenue growth, and economic stability, while social security and development projects will also be important priorities in the budget.
