We Have Developed A Unified Strategy To Accelerate Meat Exports: Jam Kamal

A high-level meeting was held to finalize Pakistan’s comprehensive meat export plan to Malaysia, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The session was jointly chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.

Officials from the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of National Food Security, private sector stakeholders, and technical consultants attended the meeting. The committee presented the final business plan for exporting halal meat to Malaysia—a significant step toward expanding Pakistan’s presence in the global halal meat market.

Haroon Akhtar Khan praised the collaborative efforts of all ministries, noting that an efficient and practical export framework had been developed. Jam Kamal Khan highlighted that the package is the result of collective input and consensus among all relevant sectors.

Under the Prime Minister’s vision, Pakistan has set an export target of USD 200 million for meat exports to Malaysia over the next three to five years. Currently, Pakistan’s buffalo meat exports to Malaysia stand at only USD 38,000.

The meeting also identified key challenges affecting exports, including foot-and-mouth disease, processing deficiencies, and logistical obstacles.

Haroon Akhtar Khan announced that Pakistan’s halal meat sector will be granted industry status, which will boost exports and strengthen the national economy. He added that a task-based action plan with timelines has been assigned to each stakeholder to achieve the export target.

Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the need for financial facilitation, stating that the banking sector, provincial and federal governments, and the State Bank of Pakistan will play a crucial role in reducing export costs.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain noted that modern slaughterhouses will be established according to Malaysian standards to improve compliance and expand trade opportunities.

Concluding the session, Haroon Akhtar Khan said that these incentives will help Pakistani halal beef successfully enter the global market.
