The government is considering introducing additional amendments to the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
According to reports, these supplementary amendments will first be presented in the National Assembly, with separate lists prepared for the government and opposition proposals. Once approved by the National Assembly, the bill will be sent back to the Senate for further consideration.
Government sources have confirmed that more amendments will be added to the 27th Amendment, while eleven opposition amendments have also been included in the agenda. Prior approval from the federal cabinet will be sought before presenting the new amendments.
It is noteworthy that two days ago, the Senate approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment with a two-thirds majority. Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented the bill, and 64 members, including PTI Senator Saifullah Abro and JUI’s Ahmad Khan, voted in its favor.
However, other members protested against the amendment, boycotted the proceedings, and staged a walkout from the house.
