In the Indonesian capital Jakarta, an explosion occurred at a mosque located within a school complex during Friday prayers, leaving at least 54 people injured. Police reported that some of the victims are in critical condition.

According to Reuters, Police Chief Asp. Eddy Suhery said in a television briefing that investigations are ongoing to determine the nature of the blast, and experts are collecting evidence from the scene. The explosion took place in a mosque inside a navy compound in the North Jakarta area of Kelapa Gading.

The injured include worshippers, children, and teachers, all of whom were rushed to nearby hospitals. Police stated that the victims suffered various injuries, including burns.

Following the explosion, military engineering units arrived at the scene with equipment to examine explosive materials. Police have sealed off the mosque and surrounding areas and started a forensic investigation.

The cause and motive of the explosion have not yet been confirmed.
